Where to see the most beautiful flowers in the world.

Time for a visit to some of the most famous flower-themed events in the world.

Before heading to Europe, I have to cover our U.S. themed festival.

Starting with: Cherry Blossoms

Washington D.C.’s Cherry Blossom Festival takes place from March 20 – April 14, 2019. The history of these trees goes back 144 years and a gutsy lady named Mrs. Eliza Scidmore who started it all. Click below to read more about her and Japan’s contribution to the beauty on the Mall.

HISTORY FAMOUS WASHINGTON CHERRY TREES

Weather, of course, is a significant factor that affects when these trees will come into full bloom. The D.C. weather forecasters start in March predicting when those trees are going to bloom.

Berlin Germany has also benefited from Japanese generosity. A tv program in Japan was the impetus for a fundraising campaign to gift cherry trees to Berlin. In over 20 years, beginning in 1990, Japan donated over 9,000 cherry trees. They did this as a tribute to the peaceful unification of East and West Germany. One of the places they are planted is along the path where the Wall stood, planted in two rows resembling the wall.

Lisse, Holland is where you’ll find Keukenhof Gardens and the famous tulip festival. Outside of Amsterdam, Keukenhof Gardens holds a two-month event from March 21 to May 19. If you’re lucky enough to be there mid-April, enjoy the Keukenhof Flower Parade on April 13.

During the same time, the city of Amsterdam has it’s own Tulip Festival. You can visit over 85 locations with beautiful tulip displays for free. Of course, if you go into one of the museum gardens, standard entry fees will apply.

In London, see the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show. This is a five-day event, and the first two days are for members only. No hats at this event ladies, they get in the way of seeing the blooms. Not even the queen wears one for this. This show is on the grounds of Royal Hospital Chelsea.

With only three days for the public, it can prove a challenge to get those tickets. The best way to guarantee entry is to take an escorted tour. That is, take a Garden Tour whose itinerary includes tickets to the Chelsea Flower Show. You’ll also see other beautiful, English gardens as well.

Brussels, Belgium in August. Now you can see a flower display in Brussels every year. The world famous Flower Carpet us held every other year in Grand Place. From August 13 – 16, 2020 over 500,000 begonias from Ghent make up this beautiful site.

In alternate years see Flower Time in the 15th century Town Hall and Grand Place. It’s from August 14 – 18, 2019 this year. The theme is Italian Baroque with 24 florists taking on the challenge and it should be amazing.
