
Summer is the high season for visiting London. Lots of visitors, lots to do, and many events that happen at a specific time. Events like the Changing of the Guard Buckingham Palace. Come late and you’ll miss it. And even if you arrive early you might see it over a lot of heads. Will you know what is going on?
During my visit to London in August, 2014, I took the time to watch a bit of the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham. It seemed ordinary to me. I couldn’t see everything. It just seemed the wrong way to do it. I was right, there is a better way to see the Changing of the Guard.

The Changing of the Guard includes the St. James Palace detachment of the Old Guard, the Buckingham Palace detachment of the Old Guard and the New Guard. These are part of an experience most people don’t know about.
Your guide will lead you along this route. At one point, you’ll even march alongside the guard. Your guide will share fascinating facts and will move you along to keep you ahead of the crowd. This is a fast-paced walk, and it’s not for those who have difficulty walking. Be sure to check your tickets for tour start and end times.
